Ernest M. James, PE
Ernest M. James, PE is the founding partner of James Controls and has a 40-year career in providing professional process control solutions to the industrial market. Mr. James was formerly the CEO and co-founder of Sharp Design, Inc., a 100-person engineering and design firm that he sold to Jacobs Engineering in 2001. Mr. James is also the co-founder of Sharp Technical Services, Inc., a 450-person technical staff augmentation company that was sold in 2002. Both former companies were recognized for several years on the Philly 100 Fastest Growing Company list.
Mr. James holds a BS in Aeronautical Engineering from Notre Dame and has served the South Jersey and Tampa Bay sections of the International Society of Automation as President. He is a registered Professional Engineer in five states and is recognized by ISA as a Certified Automation Professional (CAP).
Shawn T. Kelly
Shawn T. Kelly is a Sr. Partner of James Controls and a Lead Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineer with over 20 years of demonstrated success in industrial project engineering and design. From concept to start-up, Mr. Kelly has distinguished himself on a variety of refinery and chemical-related projects. His expertise includes a host of HMIs, PLC, and DCS systems including Wonderware, Modicon, Allen Bradley, Honeywell, and their associated communication networks and gateways.
Prior to joining James Controls, Mr. Kelly served as a Lead Systems Engineer for Jacobs Engineering and as Project Engineer with Fluid Energy Aljet and Johnson March Systems. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University and is a Member of the International Society of Automation.
John Mohrman
John Mohrman is a Sr. Partner of James Controls and a Principal Controls Engineer with 37 years in the engineering, design, and management of process control projects for the refinery and power industries. Mr. Mohrman has served such clients as PBF Energy, Valero Refining, Premcor, Belco, Merck, Conectiv, Hess, and PSE&G on a variety of projects including boiler controls and burner management systems, FCC scrubbers, and stack monitoring systems (CEMS, Opacity).
He has a hands-on approach in specifying instrumentation and electrical distribution equipment, and in the development of single line diagrams, loop wiring diagrams, conduit and cable layouts, motor control schematics, logic design, lighting, grounding, and heat tracing drawings. He is experienced in programming PLCs, DCSs, and data loggers.
Prior to joining James Controls, Mr. Mohrman was employed as a project manager for Jacobs Engineering and as a Sr. Instrumentation Engineer with Sharp Design, Inc. He also worked as a Sr. Electrical Designer with Stone & Webster and PSE&G of NJ. Mr. Mohrman holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University and is a member of the International Society of Automation.
Dave Frank Jr., PE
Dave Frank is a partner of James Controls and Principal Engineer with 28 years in the engineering, design, and management of process control and electrical projects for the refinery, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries. Mr. Frank has served such clients as PBF Energy, Valero Refining, Monroe Energy, Astra Zeneca, Merck, Wyeth, Eli Lilly, and DuPont on a variety of projects including SIS and PLC systems, Flare and stack monitoring systems (CEMS, Opacity).
Prior to joining James Controls, Mr. Frank was employed as a Sr. Instrumentation Engineer for Jacobs Engineering. Mr. Frank holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University and is a registered Professional Engineer in Delaware.
Kevin Cassidy
Kevin Cassidy is a Partner of James Controls and Principal Engineer with 35 years in the engineering, design, and management of process control projects for the refinery, chemical, and power industries. Mr. Cassidy has served such clients as PBF Energy, Valero Refining, Sun Oil, and NuStar Energy.
He is a subject matter expert on the application of field instrumentation for the refining industry. Prior to joining James Controls, Mr. Cassidy was employed as a Sr. Instrumentation Engineer for Jacobs Engineering. Mr. Cassidy holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Temple University.
Justin Lane, PE
Justin Lane is a Partner of James Controls and Principal Engineer with more than 17 years of engineering and design experience for the refining and power industries with a concentration in industrial power systems, and process control. He has served as a lead engineer on power generation, transmission and distribution, pipeline, and oil refining projects.
Mr. Lane was previously employed as a Principal Electrical Engineer with PSEG Power, and various positions with Sunoco. Mr. Lane is an ISA Senior Member, former ISA South Jersey Section president, IEEE Power and Energy Society Member, and former member of the NERC Geomagnetic Disturbance Task Force. He holds an MS and BS in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University and is a registered Professional Engineer in ten states.

George Malek is a Partner of James Controls and Principal Engineer with more than 25 years of engineering and design experience for the refining and power industries with a focus on industrial instrumentation and power systems. He currently is the Manager of Gulf Coast Operations, as well as project manager for major projects for oil refining and midstream clients.
Mr. Malek was previously employed as a Project Electrical Engineer with the P66 Alliance refinery, and AECOM. Mr. Malek is on the board of the Electrical Association of New Orleans and is Member of IEEE and the International Society of Automation. He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University and is a registered Professional Engineer in Louisiana.
